God has called us to meet the needs of a broken and hurting world. There is no question about that. While many view this as a strictly spiritual calling, a quick reading of James 2 makes it pretty clear that our job includes reaching out to our neighbor’s physical needs as well.

So, how do we do this? As college students, we often feel that we are strapped for cash and cannot give much financially, but this is not really the case. Although our wealth might not be much when compared to other Americans, it can accomplish amazing things when rightly directed. For instance, Blood:Water Mission can take $1 and use it, in combination with the gifts of others, to provide clean drinking to someone in Africa for one year. Yes, that’s one dollar. Four quarters can save a life. Pretty incredible, especially when you ask this question: How much did you pay for your Dr. Pepper at Chili’s last night?

One resource we are not really limited at as students is our time. We have greater freedom in our time than we will at any other point in our life, and so we can give ourselves to projects and people. One thing we desperately want to do is bring together college students who believe in transforming our school, city, and world through demonstrating the love of Christ in uncommon ways. To be effective in life and ministry, we have to realize we cannot stand back and decry the state of the world, but rather must engage it and love it, one individual at a time.

So how does this look currently? Right now, we are committed to providing two service opportunities each month for our students to exercise their faith. One project is helping with a special needs Parents Night Out at a local gym in order to allow the parents of these children to have a date-night to work on their marriage away from the stress of raising a child. This usually takes place on the last Saturday of the month. The other opportunity fluctuates from month to month depending on current opportunities and needs that we are aware of.
